By Jon…
Alright, I realize it’s been about a week or so since I wrote anything for the Bizzo, and I apologize to all of you loyal fans who hang on my every word. But I have good reason: I’m lazy.
Just kidding…sorta. The real reason is that we are in the doldrums of the sports calendar year, that awful time of year after the NBA Finals are over and before the NFL season starts. There’s actually a name for it, and I can’t remember what it’s called. Oh yeah: Baseball season.
Don’t get me wrong, I still enjoy baseball, but when the NBA Finals are over, we’re still less than halfway through the baseball season. The games matter, I guess, in a grand scheme of things sort of way, but they’re not the pressure packed games of September and October. And so, there’s this period we’re in right now.
I wouldn’t mind it so much really if everyone just treated as such, but instead the sports media ends up churching up stories that don’t mean nearly as much as they make it out to be. I was listening to ESPN Radio last night and for two hours all I heard about was C.C. Sabathia’s trade to the Brewers. Yeah, it was a big move. Small market team lands the big free agent of the year ahead of all the big spenders. But two hours, really? Do you know how long they talk about it if basketball was still going on or if football season had already started? Ten minutes, tops.
I really don’t have anything against baseball. In fact, I’ve actually gotten back into baseball this year after about a 6 or 7 year break. The Rangers are respectable and the Yankees are…well, they’re the Yankees, even if they suck they still manage to be exciting. Forget that they’re in 3rd place behind the Red Sox and Rays, did you know A-Rod’s getting a divorce? And that he’s been spotted with Madonna?
For Christ’s sake, SOMEONE PLEASE PICK UP A DAMN FOOTBALL!!!
